Low boiler pressure is assessed by identifying the cause of pressure loss, restoring operating pressure where possible, and checking the heating system for faults affecting performance or reliability.
The boiler and associated heating controls are accessed for a visual review of the pressure gauge, display indicators, pipework, valves, and any visible signs of leakage or corrosion. Recent pressure loss, topping-up history, and any changes in heating performance are noted to guide the inspection.
The system pressure is measured against the manufacturer’s expected operating range. The boiler condition, heating circuit, expansion vessel performance, filling loop arrangement, and safety controls are assessed to identify likely causes of low pressure, including minor leaks, air ingress, or component faults.
Where appropriate, the heating circuit is isolated or prepared for safe adjustment. Pressure-related components are checked for secure operation, and visible seals, valves, and connections are examined before any corrective work is carried out. Any obvious defects that require further repair are identified at this stage.
Pressure is restored using the correct filling procedure where the system design allows. Minor issues such as loose fittings, trapped air, or incorrect control settings are addressed where practical. If a fault is found that prevents stable pressure recovery, this is recorded and explained as a limitation of the visit.
The boiler is run through operational checks to confirm stable pressure, correct ignition, heating response, and safe operation. Flow and return performance, control response, and any pressure drop during operation are monitored to confirm whether the system is holding pressure satisfactorily.
The outcome of the inspection is summarised, including the likely cause of the pressure issue, any work completed, and any further repair or maintenance required. Guidance is provided on monitoring pressure, recognising warning signs, and arranging additional remedial work if the pressure loss recurs.
