This service provides a detailed tree survey to assess visible condition, stability indicators and planning considerations relevant to BS5837:2012.
Access to the tree, surrounding ground and adjacent features is reviewed first. Site layout, boundary constraints, nearby structures, hardstanding, planting areas and any restricted working space are noted so the survey can be carried out safely and with suitable coverage.
A visual inspection is then completed from ground level, focusing on the tree’s form, canopy condition, stem, major limbs, root zone indicators and any obvious defects. Signs of instability, damage, decay, deadwood, pruning history and interaction with surrounding vegetation or structures are recorded where visible.
Survey scope is adjusted to the tree type, size, location and complexity of the site. Ground conditions, access limitations, overhead obstructions, soft ground, dense planting, lawn areas, hedges and debris risks are considered before detailed observations are finalised.
The survey findings are compiled into a structured assessment covering visible condition and planning-related considerations under BS5837:2012. Where relevant, the record identifies constraints affecting retention, protection, proximity to development and any further specialist investigation that may be required.
The completed output provides a practical summary of the tree’s observed condition and the implications for site planning or tree management. Any recommendations are limited to what can be supported by the visual survey and site conditions observed at the time.
